The project IM-Milk will deliver innovative microsystems for the rapid, selective and sensitive detection of Escherichia coli in raw milk, providing both a case study for foodborne pathogen detection and an indicator for the hygiene level in food/beverage safety.
Lengthy microbiological analysis are a draw back in quality control, quality assurance and production management of the food industry. IM-Milk will combine cutting edge technology in microelectrodes fabrication, microfluidics, surface bio-functionalization and cell manipulation.

The BioMEMS group contribution will cover the main aspects of design and fabrication of the electrodes as well as the integrated microfluidic. It will be the main actor in the magnetic and dielectrophoretic cells capture and in the integration of the different components, subsequent testing, optimisation and characterisation. The BioMEMS group will also coordinate the dissemination and exploitation of the system.
